I blew out some dandelions on my birthday instead of candles,
I don’t deserve the weight of these anvils, rather have you that’s holding me down
seeds I’ve sown in the ground
can’t reap the fruit cos they drowned
when the rain is beating you down
you need a new wreath, you need a new crown
posies I found in my pocket
petals I plucked that amounted to nothing
happy that i saw you blossom that was a blessing
I’m not allergic to pollen
I learnt my lesson, I know the modest get trodden
I gotta sweep all the leaves that have fallen
to keep a spring in my step through the autumn
no sleep it’s no bed of roses
bare feet grass between my toes, I’m tryna turn grief into growth it’s a process
breathing in deep though my nose
through the rain sleet and the snow
I’m evergreen cos i know
flowers don’t tell but they show
birds and the bees might appear to be sweet even though lilies cast a shadow
hard to stay bright on my cloudy days feel like a tree that is standing alone
dirt in our roots won’t deter us from blooming its all the more reason to grow
harvesting hope, I’m just a sinner that casting a stone, out in the cold
the sun is my nourishment so in the winter i turn into a bag of bones
never forget how we worked, and we sweat in that field covered in rabbit holes
is life an elaborate joke?

the sweeter the scent, the sharper the thorns
evenings I spent down on all fours
crawling through all of the gardens and lawns
searching for something more perfect that words and I’m certain that flowers say more
standing up tall like a sunflower but it’s the harder they fall
I put a buttercup under your chin, and i gave you tulips when you wanted a kiss
when we were kids i thought spring was a gift, I thought everyday was like November the 5th
cherry blossoms where explosions of pink, and never forgot all those moments of bliss
now all I see is the fog and the mist
I guess it’s gone with the wind
